      <image:title>Built - 3i Surgery Center</image:title>
<image:caption>Completed 2024 The project is a Day care Center that includes five surgeries as part of its infrastructure. It is meant to operate only as a Same-Day medical care facility with no overnight stays. The project is situated at one of the busiest and noisiest traffic junctions in Nicosia. Also, its North-South orientation means a lot of sunlight exposure throughout the day. The medical care facilities are located on the first and second floor leaving the ground floor open for conferee rooms, offices, reception, and information services as well as a cafeteria located in proximity to the surrounding outdoor green space. The East and South facades include pivoting shading panels that allow unobstructed views to the outdoors but also shelter from the extreme sunlight and the high levels of noise. These panels were constructed large enough to allow for wide enough openings that enhance the visual experience with the surrounding area and the views beyond. The west façade is comprised of smaller pivoting windows as well as large fixed perforated panels that offer shading and allow ventilation and views from the vertical circulation spaces and balconies accessible by the staff. The North facade is covered in a suspended garden that shades the two balconies and protects the surgeries. The large concrete columns of the ground floor offer flexibility, large open spaces, and better connection with the outdoors. The concrete transfer slab above the ground floor allows for a metal structural system for the first and second floor that can easily be adjusted to the serve the requirements of the two medical floors. Green spaces and balconies within the two upper floors enhance the experience and orient the user. Two basement levels include support spaces for the medical center as well as parking. <image:title>Design - Cyprus News Agency</image:title>
<image:caption>Distinction Architecture Competition, 2010 The handling and dissemination of news and information, in an era defined by multimedia and the internet, comprises a complex endeavor that shapes the daily life of each citizen in a sociological, financial, political and cultural level. The transparency and validity that needs to define the world of media is reflected in our architectural approach towards the building. The new offices for the Cyprus News Agency which will also accommodate public functions is based on an interplay of interior and exterior spaces, different levels and circulation. Coherency is achieved through a perimeter circulation around an open air internal courtyard. The idea of a continuous circulation is also evident on the outer shell of the building and most importantly in the organization of the spaces along its path. The buildings wraps around the internal courtyard in a continuous flow of movement, creating voids and solids, protrusions and indentations, folds and connections. The programmatic needs have been interpreted in a contemporary architectural expression that includes three main floors with mezzanines which house the stuff of the CNA, and a first basement and a partial second basement for parking. The top three floors and the mezzanines are sculpted around an outdoor courtyard. The open central space functions as a reference point as you experience the building. It operates as a compass both for the visitor and more permanent user and facilitates orientation and movement within the building. The movement through the building and the various offices becomes a ‘journey’. The ramps and stairs function as links that enable flow-movement-rest-a continuous experience for the user. A flow of experiences is created moving from one floor to another or the mezzanines. Circulation between levels happens through ramps, stairs and elevators with all levels being handicap accessible. <image:title>Design - Larnaca Municipal Market</image:title>
<image:caption>Architecture Competition, 2011 Incorporating the proposed market and parking lot into the existing urban fabric of the old city of Larnaca was critical in the conception of the proposed project. It was important that the user perceives and experiences the new market as a natural progression of the solids (buildings) and voids (streets, passages) of the area. This is achieved through the continuation of Nicolaou Rousou street and the creation of a semipublic pedestrian passage running east west and penetrating the proposed building through the ground floor and its upper levels. The passage helps to programmatically organize functions within the market building, but also create a connection between the market square and the nearby sea front. Subsequently, placing functions left and right of the proposed passage helps to fill the building voids north and south of the pedestrian walkway. As a result the existing buildings at the junction of Nicolaou Rousou and Ifestou which interrupt the flow of the city, both visually and functionally, are integrated as part of a continuous city block, completing the gaps in the urban fabric. The intervention and the passage continuing Nicolaou Rousou street not only reinforces the connection of the square with the coastline, but also successfully invites the passerby, besides the everyday customer/client for which the market is primarily intended for. The visual connection through the passage towards the square can help encourage the flow of pedestrians toward the open air market. This passage not only functions as an intermediate space leading to the square but also helps to continue the façade of shops along Ermou street towards the market. Consequently th e project helps to energize the proposed square and the market by encouraging the flow of pedestrian traffic through it. An open plaza is created that is well defined but also effectively connected to the surrounding neighborhoods and streets. A second entrance into the market is located on the south façade and works as a north-south extension of Leontos Sofou street. Pedestrians approaching the market from Ayiou Lazarou square have the possibility to directly enter the market building and subsequently exit into the square or cross the bridge to the cafeterias and exhibition space on the first floor. The intermediate passage/atrium that’s created between the market on the south boundary and the cafeteria/exhibition spaces on the north allows the city to penetrate the building both visually and functionally. It orients the user within the building, both horizontally and vertically by allowing visual connection between floors. It also relates the interior spaces to the surrounding context allowing a collective experience of square-building-city. In collaboration w/ Demetris Economides</image:caption>

An exterior pool and an exercise area within the green yard helps to activate the ground floor and cater to the needs of both families and younger professionals looking for a place within a high density area close to the city center but with a sense of a habitat that includes both indoor and outdoor spaces. <image:title>Design - House 1709</image:title>
<image:caption>The house is situated on a plot with a difference in elevation about half a floor, sloping down away from the curb. Also a number of trees are already present within the site. The intention was to maintain as much of the natural slope of the site and as many trees as possible. To achieve that you enter the house at the level of the street and then either proceed half a level up to the bedrooms or half a level down to the kitchen area. Since the site slopes half a level down a shaded outdoor space is created beneath the bedrooms. The circulation around a central opening creates a more private outdoor space within the yard. This central atrium in the center of the house allows for natural light throughout the house and also southern direct sunlight into the living spaces and the bedrooms.</image:caption>
